Dr Piccart to win Karnofsky Award

We are proud that the Chairman of our Scientific Advisory Board, Professor Martine Piccart, is named the 2013 recipient of the David A. Karnofsky Memorial Award and Lecture by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The prestigious award was presented to her on June 1st 2013, in recognition of innovative clinical research and development that has changed the way oncologists think about the general practice of oncology.

About the David A. Karnofsky Memorial Award

Since 1970, ASCO has been awarding outstanding individuals who have contributed both to the field of oncology and to the way oncologists think about this discipline, with a David A. Karnofsky award. This award is named after one of the true great pioneers in Oncology and is further a tribute to the distinguished physician David A. Karnofsky  who himself lost a battle with lung cancer in 1969. About the Professor Martine Piccart

Martine J. Piccart, MD, PhD, is Chairman of our Scientific Advisory Board since the creation of the Foundation in 2006. She is a Professor of Oncology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Director of Medicine at the Jules Bordet Institute (Brussels, Belgium). She is a leader in international breast cancer research collaboration and drug development, and serves as the principal or co-principal investigator for large, important clinical trials including HERA, MINDACT, and ALTTO.

She is Co-Founder and Chair of the Breast International Group (BIG), uniting 49 academic research groups from around the world and running over 30 trials under its umbrella. She has received numerous awards for her research contributions, including the McGuire Award for excellence in Breast Cancer Research and the Umberto Veronesi Award for the Future Fight against Cancer.
